DD Plus Six

There is only one pretty child in the world, and every mother has it. –Old English Proverb

I came back from my work out this morning, checked the BBC news, and read about the Siberian lady who just delivered a 17.5 lb baby. (This was her 12th child). Not comforting, considering that each day that passes, I think of this growing baby in my belly. Mini Miller may not be so mini after all! Britt, Mark's sister comfortingly noted that even with a big baby, the head's probably not going to grow by oodles, so it may not make that much of a difference in delivery.

Actually, we had an appointment with the midwife today and she estimated the baby was somewhere in the average 7 lb baby range. That's manageable. Baby Miller is still nice and cozy... we'll see if he/she will respond to our "serious talk" about what we will do if he/she decides she doesn't want to come out.

Right now, the plan is for me to go to the hospital on Monday for a non-stress baby health test (where they'll monitor the heartbeat for a half an hour, to make sure it is still getting plenty of nutrition from the placenta). If mini Miller is still chillin' with no sign of movement on Wednesday, then the midwife may try to make something happen (sweep the membranes or give prostiglandin gel). Next Friday, two weeks past my due date, they would have to induce.

I don't think that's going to happen, though, now that mini Miller heard the serious talk.

Meanwhile, Mark is having lots of "daddy" dreams. Last night, he dreamed were in the village in Asia, trying to call our midwife and figure out how we could get to the city in time for the birth. A few nights ago he dreamt we had a son. Hmm... what will tonight's dream be?

Mom and Esther arrived today... how wonderful it was to see them! Maybe little Miller was waiting for the Burkes to come before it enters the world.

Ha! I have to second your friends note that this child seems to be at least equal part Burke, and showing up in true Burke fashion...on his/her own time schedule!

I hope Mini Miller shows up before any interventions are done. I'm checking in on you at least once a day. Looking forward to "meeting" your little one on the blog.

Hang in there! I know it's tough to go this far past your due date. Our 5th was 8 days past. I can't wait to hear of your little one's arrival--we keep you in our prayers each night!
