Rachel is our blog scribe, but occasionally (as now) her husband will contribute. I wanted to share briefly something the Lord is already teaching me through our son Abraham.
A verse I have long been familiar with is Zephaniah 3:17, which states:
"The LORD your God is with you, he is mighty to save.
He will take great delight in you,
he will quiet you with his love,
he will rejoice over you with singing."
Sometimes when I hold Abraham, I have this this spontaneous urge to sing. Sometimes it is mainly to quiet him down, but at other times, it's just a way to express my joy over this little person that has been entrusted to me. These are moments of sheer delight. Little Abe cannot do anything for himself or for others right now (even to offer an intentional smile), but just to gaze into his blue newborn eyes and watch his wrinkly face and bobbing head brings me great happiness. Now here's the kicker: such is God the Father's love for me! The everlasting and awesome God, the Holy One who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, is also my Father. He sings over me, He rejoices over me, He delights in me. How God feels about me is not a measured response to what I do for Him, but just because I belong to Him and He has chosen me in love. It is probably the most amazing thing I could ever dwell upon. All this because God freely gave His only Son to die in my place, so that I could experience God's forgiveness and grace.
Why not take a moment right now to quiet your heart and rejoice in the Father's love for you?
