Like the Loaves and the Fishes

This Sunday, we invited our neighbors from the other side of the plywood (there is a thin wall dividing the parts of the house that we are renting) over for dinner. Since dinner invites are not so common here (people gather instead for the numerous cultural and religious holidays), our neighbors asked us what the special occasion was. Nothing, we said, we would just like to get to know you better.
I had prepared a rosemary crock pot chicken (I'll have to post the recipe sometime... so simple and so delicious), a pot of rice, some cole slaw, and a pineapple upside down cake. I heard the voices at the door as our guests began arriving and realized I should start chopping more cabbage. We ended up with two extra uncles, an aunt, and two cousins joining us at our small kitchen dining table. Thankfully, the chicken kept on multiplying, as did the brown rice, and there was even a container left over for leftovers. Our neighbors are from another minority language group, and were teaching us their language over dinner (linguistics is a great job for small talk in this country!)
Next time, I'll make sure to prepare extra rice and chicken... always be prepared to entertain a village. :)
Speaking of villages, we will be in the village this afternoon until Sunday. Thanks for lifting us up!
Pray for a special birthday for Dr. Mark on Friday. Happy B Day, Mi amor!

You and Mark are so perfectly suited for where you are and where you are called! Who else could remain so calm and collected (and happy!) as unexpected dinner guests keep arriving!

Happy Birthday Mark!
