Last week during our trip to the village, we visited the first Lono preschool. Our org has been encouraging preschools in various minority language groups, with the intention that children will become fluent in their own language and culture, and be able to learn how to read in their own language before transitioning to the national language. (Studies show children become better lifelong learners if they start first in their own language... and they will be able to read all sorts of literature which will one day be available to them).

Abe was a star pupil, helping the other kids put their toys away (see video), and listening to lots of Lono. I loved it for the language learning opportunity. The topic of circle time that morning was "what everyone had done before coming to school", and it was great language learning for me... a few new words plus lots of repetition. The answers? Well, the kids cried, they took a bath in the river, they ate rice... Typical mornings.

Pray for the success of the play school, that our involvement will be one bringing light and salt, and that these Lono children will become all God created them to be.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY update: I want to take a moment to wish my mom a Happy Birthday (Thursday). The doctor's reports seem to remain positive, that her cancer has stopped growing. We are still praying for it to disappear. She has had some pain in her arm, so keep lifting her up.
Mom, I hope you have a happy day and know that you are deeply loved and appreciated for your compassion, care, and joyful exuberance. May the Lord give you another quarter of a century to celebrate his goodness!

How cool! Is Abe learning Lono too? Does he understand English, sign, Lono, and Malay? I'm so jealous..maybe you could send a note of "encouragement" to Conrad on the language front? ;)
Gallop, Abe... (Or however you say "good job").
He is looking steady on the legs :)Will show Mom this on her B-day--yea :)
