It's Tribute Week. I have many stories to tell about our family visits last November and December. Instead of story style, I'll share the pictures with you tribute style, giving you a chance to know the incredible people who have shaped our lives and family as I tell you about the adventures we shared together. (NOTE... blog tributes are complimentary for all those who will board the 12-18 hour plane ride to come see us!) I'll have to begin with mom, "Grandma Martha," since her visit to our home half way across the world was the biggest blessing of all. When we heard the news of mom's recurring cancer last June, we didn't know when we would see her again and under what conditions. Little did we know what God had in store. He answered so many of your prayers and she rallied to a quick recovery, to the point that she was able to come and visit us in November/ December.
If you know my mom, you know she is an ambitious, full of life, gung ho adventurer. She tackled a slew of firsts here with the courage and tenacity of a pit bull (or maybe I should choose something more charming... a terrier?) In her seventies, she is checking off those "firsts"... first time to squat in a squatty potty (Asian flushy- toilet holes), first time to snorkel (what a wonderland she discovered in the seas of our shores), first time to spot a Probiscus monkey, first time to walk the paths of Lonoland, first time to hike in an Asian rainforest, and first time to watch a grandchild learn to walk.
Abraham loved getting reaquainted to his Grandma Martha, and they had many special moments together, from story time to playing in the sand. (Above, probiscus hunting) Mom was a favorite with all of our local friends, who couldn't believe that she was so old and looked so young! The first question she was asked by any new friend was, "How old are you?" obviously not a taboo question here!
