Thirty cents & a sack of rice

It's been a while since I've written. (Seems like I say that at the beginning of every blog. Okay, no more apologies). I've been lost in tax land (a nice return on our way, thanks to moving costs and Mark's tuition) and am happy to be coming up for air. Mark finished another module of language school, and I have been enjoying my sessions with Wendy, my tutor. She's leaving in less than two weeks for university. How I will miss her! As will Abe). Jenny, her mom, has been teaching me some local baby rhymes/ songs. I thought you'd like to hear one. (I record them to study at home). If you jest at the lyrics, just consider our words to "London Bridges." I'd rather sing about rice, thank you!

Other news on the Abraham front, he's thankfully exchanged his pterodactyl shrieks for high pitched mouse squeaks, and is sleeping even longer hours than before (12 hours at night, and two naps in the day. Don't ask me our secret. It's God's grace--He checked our calendar and knew what we needed-- and a very easy going little guy). He's in this weird in between stage between loving to roll onto his tummy but not being able to crawl... so he's always stretching and pushing his toys just out of reach. Kinda reminds me of the guy crawling through the desert gasping for water. He's taken to eating pretty well, although he's much more enthusiastic about papaya, banana, and mango than he is about barley porridge or pumpkin. Go figure. Mommy's loving her book "Super Baby Foods" and is hoping he'll appreciate her concoctions.

I've been doing some pondering lately, but have just run out of brainwaves for writing tonight, so stay tuned. So, the song...

Thirty cents for a sack full of rice;
Six birds frying in a pan
Of course it's gotta be delicious--
Feed it to the king.
The King in his house
does his mathematics
"steals" in the kitchen--
eats the "sugar bread."

A cultural note: the word for "to kiss" here also means "to sniff"... probably because their baby kisses are more like a good like sniff. (See the end of the video) We'll have to work on correcting the "sniffing" before our next trip home. :)
