Some sightseeing

It's been a good week. Mark started the next level of language study, and is enjoying extra conversation practice. I met with a potential replacement tutor for my present tutor who looks promising. She's much older than Wendy (so she'll she more of a teacher than a friend) but seems to have lots of experience teaching her language. We got a chance on Saturday morning to see some of the sights in the historical part of town. We did a bit of exploring at the old British fort where we had an activity a few weeks ago (Mark loved reading all the information plaques. He's reading a history book of the region and just can't get enough of that stuff!) We also looked around in little India and finished with a nice authentic curry lunch before racing home for Abe's afternoon nap.

Sunday was appropriately restful, and Mark and I started reading "Prince Caspian" to each other in anticipation of its May theatre release. (We can see the street billboard for it from our window). Sunday evening we thought we'd take a walk in the neighborhood, but it was cut short after we realized that the gas masks a few men were wearing were for a neighborhood chemical extermination of mosquitoes (the kind that carry dengue). The announcement came just in time for us to race up to our apartment and see them douse the neighborhood below. Needless to say we battened down the hatches (closed the windows) as soon as possible.

Monday and Tuesday were language sessions for Abe and I (he's working on "mommy"). I'm working on telling the story of how we choose his name (with both Abrahams included). We got as far as Abram's call (will continue on Friday).

Wendy is leaving for uni in another city on May 5. We will really miss her! I want to have some quality time with her before she leaves, hopefully some heart to heart conversations.

This afternoon we hosted our weekly pryr meeting with our colleagues. Abe and his Korean friend (just a month older) were quite intrigued with each other.

Oh! and the big news of the week... Abe sat up on his own. Big benchmark! We bought him a mat so he won't bang his head on the hard floor, and he loves it.

See our photos from the week, plus some "back issues": photos of curry burgers in the village, travel to Manila (finally downloaded from my cell phone). Also a technical note: if you are having trouble getting the videos from previous entries to show, make sure that you are clicking the play button at the bottom of the video picture (not the arrow on the picture).
