Flavors of the Month

I was going to title this blog "Red Enchiladas are for Sissies" but I declined in order to avoid affending my New Mexican readers. It's true, though. Those tiny SE Asian chilis are dynamite compared to our Southwestern hots. This city is known for its hawker fare (clean and full of variety), and we've tried a few of the local delights, mostly in soup form with various spices. Our first tasting of "tom yam", a sour & spicy soup was quite an unforgettable experience. Hot soup plus burning hot chili are an interesting combo in the tropics. I had liquids oozing out of every pore and spout of my body. I was not to be daunted, though and finished the whole bowl (with a nice bowl of white rice to help it go down). Abe handled his milk the next day like a knight. But we'll stay away from that culinary adventure for the time being.

Abe's favorite flavor this month is big toe (followed sometimes closely by pinky toe). His feet are his favorite friends these days... he loves to kick them when he smiles and suck them when he's bored. Very cute! He's getting stronger by the day, and can stand now (when balanced by mommy and daddy).

It's been a while since I posted pictures, so here are some of the chronicles of our past couple weeks. As you can see, one of my favorite pasttimes is catching sapshots of Abe. Needless to say, this child is very well documented.

We're all packed and in the process of moving our stuff to our new apartment, where we will be staying when we return from our travels the next few weeks. We were thinking about our host home in the village and realized there will most likely be three little ones in the house under the age of 3-- Abe, a one year old, and a two and a half year old. It's going to be a zoo! We've decided we'll invest in a fan for direct entry on Abe's crib. Thankfully we do expect to have electricity.
