The area is also famous for flowers, and strawberries. There are areas where you can "self-pluck", but it's not quite the same as doing your own picking in a strawberry patch!
We enjoyed a nice tour of a rose garden collection. Some of these roses were amazingly aromatic... and the variety of smells of different roses was striking.
The hibiscus in the garden were some of the largest I've seen. Mark noted (and I fully agree) that the best part of the trip was the absolute quiet we heard when waking up in the morning, in contrast to the nonstop sounds of the city. Silence is true therapy to the soul.
