The hike took us a few hours (about 8 km) and we enjoyed the fauna along the way (we had been up to the top on the train previoiusly).
Abe was a great little traveler, taking his naps on daddy's back (see overview pic above). The last 45 minutes was straight up. Amazingly, it's a favorite spot for mountain bikers who manage to climb the slope on wheels!
We made a local friend halfway up the mountain, who decided to "guide us" the rest of the day. He introduced us to some of the best local shaved ice I've ever had. Nutritious too! Corn, red beans, jelly worms, rose water syrup, cream, and crushed peanuts on top. Delics!

It turned out to be a great language learning day (five hours of conversation on the trail) and a beautiful chance to wonder at God's creation. This fern grows in a perfect hexagonal shape!

In other news, Abe gets closer to a crawl every day. He's an expert at pushing off with his toes and fingertips now. Yesterday, he got his leg up and underneath him, but cried in fright after mom and dad gave a big cheer for his first moves. We'll have to be quieter about our rejoicing next time. :)

I have to tell ya, that shaved ice sounds kinda gross. :) Looks like the hike was fun tho!
I have to concur with Denzel... that was the thing I took away from your post... that shaved ice seems a little daunting...
Sounds like things are humming along for you guys. Abe is growing so fast... Katie is WALKING...can you beieve that? 10 1/2 months. I am so not ready for this, but she's so cute!
I'll have to agree with D on the shaved ice! That is pretty near questionable for me, but hey it was an adventure!
The shaved ice looks scrumptious!
