Our Little Weed

Abraham had his two month check up with Dr. Whitney today, and we were glad to find out he's growing like a weed... 24 inches and 12.2 pounds (that's a gain of about four pounds since birth). I never thought I'd be so proud of a pudgy belly... but seeing his little ponch makes me smile every time. Abe is in the 90th percentile on his height... (in other words, 10% of the baby population is shorter than him)... he's catching up to his father. His weight was in the 50th percentile and head circumfurence in the 30th. Long legs and little head.

We've begun our long and numerous goodbyes, and I'm in that difficult overwhelmed (how am I ever going to get everything done?) and sad (three years seems like a very long time!) place. The reality of our long absence sunk in on Sunday morning during Abe's dedication. The hardest part of life overseas is always the loss of family and friends.

I was encouraged by a good conversation we had with my dad at breakfast one morning in Las Cruces as we gazed at the purple pipe Organ mountains outside their window. He said, "the safest place for you to be is the middle of God's will, and I know God wants you there." What a comfort to know that he and mom are trusting the Lord for us, and that he's come to that place of peace in his heart.

Pray for us in the next week and a half. More goodbyes to say and many more bags to pack!
