During the last few days, baby Miller has started blinking in the womb and practicing its "looks" around. What does it see? Well, if I lift up my shirt in the sunlight, it sees a pinkish hue as the sunlight shines through the membranes of my skin (and cellulose).
It is listening a lot too, able to distinguish Mark and I's voices, and even to develop a taste for music (lullabies and classical are its usual diet... this child will love Vivaldi!) Although they told us at our birth class last week that it hears sounds (my digestive juices, quite active now that heartburn is in full throttle) at the decibel of a vacuum cleaner. Hmm... Vivaldi a la Electrolox. Doesn't sound like such a symphonic combination. :)

We're doing well. We'll have our last birthing class on Thursday. I'm sad it will be coming to an end! We'll do more labor "practice" (our teacher rings a bell according to the timing of contractions so we can practice different positions and ways of relaxing). We're leaving Friday morning for the Northwest, via Kansas, Colorado, Utah, and Idaho. It'll be a nice leisurely road trip on the way. We're looking forward to seeing relatives and partners, meeting a new church in central Washington and then ending the almost one month adventure with some days at the Miller lake house in Priest Lake, Idaho. The Burke parents will be joining us too for the Northwest bit! We'll drive back in three days to arrive Aug 8.
Mark finishes the last finishing touches on Miller baby 1: his dissertation. (Our two babies are pictured above). He may actually submit the electronic copy to the university for printing TODAY! dum dum dum!
